Safety Rail Safety TIP
Over the past several years, mattress toppers and gel mattress pads have become all the rage at colleges and universities across the country. And it’s no wonder, some of those college mattresses are nothing short of inhospitable! There is one downside to this trend, though, and it’s one you need to be aware of as you move your student into their residence halls.
Don’t get so caught up in the excitement (and anxiety) that you forget to A) make sure their top bunk or loft HAS a safety rail and B) that it’s substantial enough to protect your kid from a roll right outta their bed and onto the hard floor below. Here’s the part you need to know. As you get the bed made with sheets, mattress toppers, and comforters, make sure there is enough clearance between the top of the bedding and the safety rail. There should be at least FIVE inches there to fully protect your student. A simple check will bring you peace of mind and keep them safe all semester.
